‘Matrescencia’ is a book created as a guide to support and self-discovery for new mothers, addressing the process of transformation they go through when they become mothers. Matrescence, understood as the set of emotional, physical and psychological changes that a woman undergoes as she enters motherhood, is a period of transition and personal growth. This book addresses issues such as self-care, emotional challenges, expectations, and the search for a new identity, while accompanying the mother through every step of this experience.
The project aims to be both informative and visually appealing, with the goal of reading it as a refuge in times of doubt and a source of reassurance and empowerment for all women on this journey. Each chapter explores different aspects of matrescence with practical situations and solutions, offering guided reflections, positive affirmations, and tips that mothers can integrate into their daily lives.

Rationale and Inspiration:
The book was created to give visibility and support to a process that, while common, is often under-addressed from a mother’s perspective. This project arose out of a need for practical and empathetic resources for mothers who feel a temporary loss of identity and are looking for ways to reconnect with themselves as they adjust to their new identity as mothers. More than a conventional guide, ‘Matrescencia’ is an emotionally supportive book that invites the mother to explore, accept and enrich her identity at every step of the process.

Techniques and Tools Used:
Editorial design techniques and software tools were used to realise this book, which allowed the idea to be realised in an attractive, functional and professional presentation.
– Content and Writing Research: Research was conducted to develop valuable content based on current research on motherhood and parenting. In addition, the structure of the book was designed to maintain an intuitive flow, with sections such as ‘situations and solutions’, ‘myths and truths’, and daily affirmations.
– Editorial Design and Layout: Using Adobe InDesign, the book was structured in a reader-friendly format, employing easy-to-read typography and a soft colour palette to create a calm and welcoming visual experience. The design included the use of iconography to facilitate navigation and highlight key sections.
– Illustration and Graphic Elements: Original illustrations were developed in Adobe Illustrator to accompany the content and emphasise the emotional and supportive message of the book. Each illustration was designed to represent warmth, support and transformation, using soft lines and minimalist styles that stand out without overloading the page.
– Creation of Interactive Resources: In some sections, QR codes were included that mothers can scan to access guided meditations, motivational audios, or complementary online readings. These interactive elements were developed to make the book a living tool adapted to the needs of mothers.
– Graphic Production and Preparation for Printing: Graphic production was essential for the design to meet print quality requirements, so detailed preparation of the files for printing was undertaken, with adjustments to the die line, trim and bleed margins, and colour selection. The result is a pocket-sized book, easy to handle and quick to consult, adapted to the needs of mothers.

Bottom Line:
‘Matrescence’ presents itself as an essential resource for mothers in search of balance, self-compassion, and practical tools to face the challenges of motherhood. The combination of accessible content, attractive visual design, and interactive resources makes this book an innovative guide and a fundamental support in the portfolio, being a clear example of end-user oriented design committed to their emotional and psychological well-being.
