Project Description: The Matrescencia packaging was created as a physical extension of the concept behind the MaterniApp app and the Matrescencia book, both focused on emotional wellbeing and self-care for mothers after childbirth. This packaging aims to offer a tangible and emotional experience, inspiring mothers to reconnect with their personal identity and promote self-care during the matrescence stage, a transformative phase that often requires support, empathy and understanding.
Concept and Purpose: The packaging design is carefully crafted with an oval shape that evokes the image of the womb, symbolising the space of containment and transformation that a mother experiences. Each element of the kit represents a tool for self-care and personal reflection, reinforcing the mission of emotional support and personal reconnection.
Techniques and Tools Used: To develop the packaging, die design techniques, grid layout and advanced tools in graphic design software such as Adobe Illustrator and InDesign were used. These programmes enabled the creation of precise cut lines and a structure that maintained the integrity of the concept while facilitating mass production. The cardboard of choice, a 200 gsm coated paperboard, was selected for its strength and high quality finish, which allows for sharp printing and a sophisticated appearance. In addition, die-cutting, folding and gluing techniques were applied to achieve the shape and internal compartments that secure each product.
Internal Elements and Materials: Every internal component of the kit, from the self-exploration book to the scratch cards and idea ticker, was designed and crafted in tune with the concept. Specific materials such as coated and recycled paper, as well as wire-o binding techniques and scratch ink application were used to add an interactive touch to the cards.
This project integrates design, functionality and symbolism, creating an emotionally meaningful product that enhances the initial concept of Matrescencia, helping mothers to feel a space of containment and accompaniment in their journey towards self-care and reconnection with themselves.
